Services for the people of Lake, Jasper, and Newton Counties

We're There When You Need Us

The American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana Chapter provides critical emergency response and blood services throughout Lake, Jasper and Newton counties.

Founded in 1917, the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana has spent 91 years keeping our community safe and helping families in times of crisis. As the need for Red Cross services continues to grow, we are committed to upholding the tradition of service to this community.

Our Northwest Indiana chapter’s focus is preventing, responding to and providing relief for local emergencies and disasters. In the last two years, we have been called on as never before as we assisted residents affected by six major floods and a tornado.

During 2008, we have helped more than 2,000 victims of fires, floods and other emergencies throughout the area and trained more than 20,000 people in CPR, lifeguard certification and other lifesaving skills.

None of these efforts and programs could be carried out without our nearly 200 dedicated volunteers and the support of the community. Your contributions make it possible for our volunteers to train others to save lives, to provide relief to families who have lost everything in a disaster, and to continue the vital mission of the American Red Cross in our community.

As we look to a future optimistic about expanding our services to meet growing community needs, we are committed to strengthening our partnerships with area businesses, government and other social service agencies to continually improve disaster response. We also must improve our own technology, infrastructure and facilities to provide a basic level of support and safe operations to our staff and volunteers, to enhance our ability to serve the community by responding quickly and efficiently during a crisis, and to prepare for potential catastrophic disasters.

Although our needs may seem modest, we've begun a Catastrophic Preparedness Planning Initiative Campaign to raise $300,000 that will make a significant difference in the future of the American Red Cross of Northwest Indiana and our ability to continue to be there when the people of our region face a crisis. No contribution to this effort is too big or too small. Every donation will help us.

Please support the American Red Cross and its volunteers as we strive to serve those in need in the Northwest Indiana community.
