Federal government drops key charges against Modern Continental as the Big Dig criminal case is resolved

Federal prosecutors dismissed charges today against one of the Big Dig’s largest contractors in connection with a tunnel collapse that killed a Boston woman, but the company pleaded guilty to lying about construction defects in another tunnel.

The Hingham Luxury Kitchens Tour on Saturday is a combination of the latest trends in kitchens along with art by South Shore Art Center artists which have been incorporated into the displays. Proceeds from the tour will go toward the center's exhibitions and classes.

Bold decorating choices make cottage interior a hidden treasure

PEORIA, Ill. —

Janet Roth has lived in this house most of its life and most of hers. The brass plaque was on the front door when she and her husband, Charles, bought the house more than 40 years ago. "Lilac Cottage," it says, "built in 1938." The plaque, like the lilac bushes surrounding the Peoria home, helped convince her to buy the house.  Roth proceeded to bring her own charm to the Cape Cod-style cottage. Inside, it is as visual as the grand view of the gardens and bluffs surrounding it.
