Get To Know How GSA Auctions Work

Auction Tips

Prepare Yourself

You are more likely to find success at our auctions if you come prepared. Review the auction catalog to make sure the vehicle you select matches your needs. Calculate the maximum amount you are willing to bid before the auction begins. You should also determine what forms of payment the auction house will accept.

Free Registration

Registration for GSA Fleet Vehicle Sales simply requires that you demonstrate that you are at least 18 years of age, provide a valid Social Security or Taxpayers ID number, and make a declaration that you are not in arrears on any surplus property previously purchased from the United States Government. There is no cost to register. GSA Fleet Auctions do not charge a buyer's fee. Ask the sponsoring auction house about local tax regulations.

Be Flexible

You can greatly improve your chances for success if you preselect several vehicles listed in the auction catalog. Quite often, there are multiple units of the same vehicle being auctioned that day or there may be comparable models that closely match your criteria.

Don't Be Shy

It can often be useful to have a friend accompany you at the auction. Also, don't hesitate to ask any of the auction spotters for help. They are there to assist you.

Take Your Time

GSA Fleet Vehicle Sales are conducted at a fairly brisk pace, with each offering usually concluded within a minute. You may experience some difficulty understanding the auctioneer's rapid speech at first. Take time to familiarize yourself with the auctioneer's patter and accustom yourself to the auction's pace.

Make Sure

You should read our Terms & Conditions completely before attending our auction. Also make sure you are ready to pay for your vehicle immediately, should you make a successful bid. You must be able to take possession of your vehicle when the auction concludes.

Auction House Signage

GSA Fleet Vehicle Sales are open to all members of the public. Be aware, though, that GSA Fleet Auctions are often held in auction houses normally open only to professional auto dealers. These locations may display permanent signage prohibiting public attendance. These signs are not applicable to GSA Fleet Auctions.
