Graphic of Global Earth Observation System of Systems

Earth observations include measurements and monitoring of the Earth under water, on the land surface and beneath, air and water quality, of atmospheric conditions, and measures of the health of humans, plants and animals. Measurements can be made directly or by sensors in contact or remotely, and all these observations support modeling or other tools that create information for environmental decision-making. Read more basic information about GEO.

The EPA GEO Committee works on integrating EPA measurements, monitoring and modeling to make informed decisions about environmental issues. It also serves the GEOSS-focused Advanced Monitoring Initiative (AMI) projects that pioneer GEO-centric applications to foster decision-making. Chartered by the EPA Science Policy Council in 2005, it is formed by delegates from Program Offices and Regions.

These Web pages and links have information about GEO and GEOSS related programs and activities, including the Advanced Monitoring Initiative of EPA, the activities of USGEO and GEO, and various documents describing the results of activities and their outcomes.
