AACE Introduction

ACE Partnership for Endocrine Health

The American College of Endocrinology (the College) strives to promote the art and science of clinical endocrinology for the improvement of patient care and public health. In order to accomplish its philanthropic mission, the College established a fund, the Partnership for Endocrine Health (PEH). Monies raised will help the College in the long-term growth and maintenance of valuable programs that enhance patient care and improve the health of future generations. All contributions to the College, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, are fully tax-deductible as a charitable contribution.

The mission of the American College of Endocrinology's (ACE) Partnership for Endocrine Health is to preserve, advance and expand the practice of endocrinology for the betterment of health and living.

SCIENCE AND MEDICAL EDUCATION

The American College of Endocrinology (the College) promotes the advancement of medical science and education in the field of endocrinology. We enhance efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of health care delivery by developing and providing educational opportunities for physicians nationally and worldwide.

Continuing Medical Education (CME) Accreditation
The College offers various CME-accredited educational activities as described below. Physicians can receive American Medical Association (AMA) PRA Category 1 Credit(s)™ through the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE), who is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME).

  • Endocrine University® (EU)
Endocrine University® is an intensive, five-day curriculum, offered to final year endocrine fellows who are AACE members. The purpose is to prepare participants for entering full-time clinical practice after completion of their fellowship. The course is a comprehensive CME-accredited activity, encompassing various endocrine-related topics such as thyroid ultrasound, bone densitometry, insulin pump therapy, endocrine surgery, and practice management. EU enhances the endocrine fellows’ skills for the benefit of their future practice and patients.

  • ACE Self-Assessment Program (ASAP)
ASAP provides a core curriculum with updated information on the evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and management of endocrine diseases. ASAP fulfills the cognitive needs of the endocrinologist to be effective and competent in delivering optimal endocrine care, and assists endocrinologists in preparation and maintenance of their subspecialty certification. It also provides an opportunity for endocrinologists to meet, in part, state licensure requirements for CME.

  • Consensus Conferences
These conferences address the issues for both the prevention and treatment of endocrine-related disorders, and provide recommendations that will equip physicians and patients with a better understanding and management of specific endocrine and metabolic disorders. These CME-accredited activities help to form a consensus that positively impacts improvements in the quality of care.

Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU)
This certification program offers opportunity for eligible candidates to take the ACE Comprehensive Certification Examination (CCE), and allows the successful candidate to demonstrate acquisition of important knowledge and/or skills necessary to perform consultations and diagnostic evaluations for thyroid and parathyroid disorders through both diagnostic ultrasound and ultrasound-guided fine needle aspiration (FNA). Candidates successfully completing the CCE and validation process are awarded the Endocrine Certification in Neck Ultrasound (ECNU) designation.

Endocrine Practice
The official scientific, peer-reviewed journal is published to enhance the health care of patients with endocrine diseases through the continuing education of practicing endocrinologists.

HEALTH AWARENESS/MEDICAL INFORMATION

The College strives to enhance access to endocrine health information, address and provide information to help people learn about, understand and manage their endocrine health. We aim to improve the health and overall wellness of individuals and make a lasting impact on their lives.

Power of Prevention®
A multi-tiered patient awareness program, created in 2004, to help educate and inform consumers on the importance of endocrine health and how to prevent endocrine disorders. Power of Prevention® promotes healthy lifestyles through physical activity and good nutrition for all ages.

The goals of the Partnership are to:

  • Raise the level of public awareness of endocrine diseases and encourage early diagnosis and disease meanagement
  • Increase the number of endocrinologists entering practice
  • Foster the highest level of training and experience for endocrinologists through fellowship training programs and continuing medical education
  • Advance endocrine research for new drug therapies and medical devices for treating endocrine diseases
