GMS and MTSAT-1R Satellites:

GMS-5 was replaced by GOES-9 on May 22, 2003. The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) launched MTSAT-1R on Thursday, February 24, 2005. MTSAT-1R replaced GOES-9 as the operational West Pacific, East Asia, and Australia satellite on November 15, 2005. History and differences of the satellites.
