Best Buy Company has accepted the EPA's Resource Conservation Challenge and expanded a consumer electronics recycling program to provide household and business consumers with convenient opportunities to get rid of unwanted electronic products.

At select store locations throughout the US, consumers can drop off old computers and all peripherals, televisions, audio and video equipment, cellular phones, ink jet printer cartridges, rechargeable batteries, and other electric goods. The company is not accepting large kitchen appliances.

Best Buy is holding several events through October 2003. For information on event locations and the program, visit Consumer Electronics Recycling Exit EPA on their web site.

"We are offering consumers a safe and convenient way to get rid of old or unwanted electronics, raising awareness about the need for more reuse and recycling options, and working with government and product manufacturers to create effective solutions for handling old electronics," says Paula Prahl, Best Buy's Vice President for Government Affairs.

Since the program began in 2001, Best Buy has collected over 800,000 pounds of electronic goods from nearly 9,000 consumers. Best Buy has pledged to work closely with the communities where events are held to provide local reuse options for functioning computer equipment, while ensuring that all remaining materials are recycled in an environmentally responsible manner.
