ENERGY STAR Challenge Participant Story

DeKalb County Central United School District
Waterloo, Indiana
Date Joined: August 19, 2008

The DeKalb County Central United School district is located in northeast Indiana about 20 miles north of Fort Wayne, IN. The district serves three communities and a large rural area. There are approximately 4000 students attending school at 7 seven sites - 4 elementary schools, 1 middle school, 1 high school, and 1 alternative school. In addition, there are 4 support facilities in the district. We have been working with Energy Education, Inc. for the past four years to implement their program which is a "people" oriented program. We work with all facets of the staff and students to conserve electricity, natural gas and water. We make a report to the Board of Education each six months to report on our progress and we also post our progress on the district's website. Our local media covers all Board meetings and places the district's energy reports in prominent places (many times front page).
