Trace Detection of Narcotics Using a Preconcentrator/Ion Mobility Spectrometer System

April 2001
This NIJ Report presents results from experiments of a trace drug detection system using a chemical preconcentrator and associated control hardware and an ion mobility spectrometer (IMS). The goals of the study were to investigate the efficacy of the preconcentrator in the general field of drug detection and to determine the feasibility of developing a trace drug detection portal for personnel screening. The report also discusses the IMS's ability to detect drugs with and without nicotinamide dopant.
