Welcome to the Boston Region's Employer Information Site. Employers in New England may contact Regina Bachini, Employer Service Liaison Officer with questions concerning W2 wage reporting. The Employer Service Liaison Officer (ESLO) can assist employers with:

•  W-2 filing – paper and electronic (e-file)

•  Social Security Number verification process

•  Notices from IRS and SSA on reporting discrepancies

•  Missing or incorrect W-2 submissions

Wage reporting information may be found online on SSA's national Website .

Annual W2 Wage Reporting

W2 data can be submitted electronically or mailed to SSA using the paper W2 form. We encourage employers to use SSA's Online Wage Reporting System to submit their W2s electronically. The benefits of electronic filing are an extended due date, electronic receipt, ability to track W-2 reports, and it's paperless.

The first step in filing electronically is registering for a User ID/PIN and Password. To register go to: http://www.ssa.gov/bso/bsowelcome.htm

To learn more about filing W2 electronically go to: http://www.ssa.gov/employer/how.htm#ele

Social Security Number Verification Service

The employee's name and SSN reported on the W2 must match the information contained in Social Security's records. This will ensure the wages are properly credited to the worker. Social Security offers a free verification service to employers called Social Security Number Verification Service or SSNVs. For more information go to: http://www.ssa.gov/employer/ssnv.htm

SSA's Employer Reporting Instructions & Information Website provides additional employer information.

If you have any questions about W2 wage reporting issues, please contact Regina Bachini at (617) 565-2895 or Regina.Bachini@ssa.gov.
