NREL honors resource-efficient builders

Fifteen builders received this year's EnergyValue Housing Awards on March 25 at the National Green Building Conference in Seattle.

And the winners are. . .

Among the 2002 EVHA award winners were Tierra Concrete Homes of Pueblo, Colo.; Colorado Dream Homes of Pagosa Springs, Colo.; Pulte Homes, Tucson and Phoenix, divisions; and Able Homebuilders of Sioux City, Iowa.

Innovation rewarded

The awards are sponsored by the U.S. Department of Energy, its National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the National Association of Home Builders Research Center, and Professional Builder Magazine. The EVHA honors builders who voluntarily integrate energy and resource efficiency into the design, construction, and marketing of their new homes. The program educates the home-building community and the public about successful approaches to resource-efficient construction.

This year's award winners featured high-efficiency, low-e, gas-filled windows; insulated basement walls; solar water heating; geothermal heat pumps and tubular skylights. The book, "Energy Value Housing Award Guide: How to Build and Profit with Energy Efficiency in New Home Construction" describes many of the design features used by award winners.
