SRP offers security services

Arizona's Salt River Project has found a way to combine the marketing of energy and security services.
The utility formed a partnership with Protection One to offer Arizona homeowners and businesses security systems and monitoring services. Protection One is the largest security company in Arizona.
Through the program, SRP customers receive free installation of a basic home security system valued at $299. Customers pay a monthly fee of $29.95 for around-the-clock monitoring and lifetime service.
The basic system includes three door or window sensors, a control panel, keypad, motion detector, interior siren, yard sign and window decals, and connection to Protection One's 24-hour alarm system. Customers can receive additional services, such as key-chain remote control and touch-tone telephone access, for an additional fee.
Protection One handles all the scheduling and installation and provides the security services. The systems are cobranded, with both SRP and Protection One's names on the system controls.
SRP is marketing the systems through bill stuffers and customer newsletters and by forwarding inquiries that come into its service center. The SRP Website has a form linked to Protection One that lets customers easily request information on the service.
The program offers SRP a low-risk way of building positive relationships with customers, at little cost to the utility. It provides no services other than marketing support, and benefits from increased visibility through the cobranding program.
SRP is the second utility in the country to form a partnership with Protection One. PacifiCorp was the first.
