Audio News Release: New Money Orders

INTRO:
Postal Service Money Orders just got a makeover. The new money orders provide several additional security measures aimed at further deterring fraud and build upon the nation’s strong levels of trust in the U.S. Postal Service. A new holographic security thread will make detecting counterfeits even easier, according to David Shoenfeld, Postal Service Senior Vice President of Mailing Services.

SHOENFELD SOUNDBITE:
POSTAL MONEY ORDERS ARE THE SAFEST WAY TO SEND FUNDS THROUGH THE MAIL. THEY’RE AMONG THE MOST SECURE FINANCIAL INSTRUMENTS IN THE WORLD. THESE ENHANCED SECURITY FEATURES WILL PROVIDE EVEN GREATER PROTECTION AND VALUE FOR OUR CUSTOMERS.

CLOSE:
The added security comes at no additional cost. For a little more than a dollar, customers can purchase domestic money orders with added peace of mind. International Money Orders remain priced at $3.85. More information on the new Postal Money Orders is available at usps.com.

An independent federal agency, the U.S. Postal Service is the only delivery service that visits every address in the nation, 146 million homes and businesses, six days a week. It has 37,000 retail locations and relies on the sale of postage, products, and services to pay for operating expenses, not tax dollars. The Postal Service has annual revenues of $75 billion and delivers nearly half the world’s mail.
