Shawn Giblin works as the Water Quality Specialist at the Onalaska Field Station collecting and analyzing water quality data. He grew up hunting and fishing on the Mississippi River and was pleased to join the LTRMP team in October, 2006. 

Shawn graduated from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 1997 with a BS in Biology- Aquatic Emphasis.  He worked for the University of Wisconsin Center for Limnology- Trout Lake Field Station collecting limnological data for long term ecological research and later conducted and published research on the effects of shoreline development on littoral habitat quality and crayfish distribution in Wisconsin lakes.

Other work experience includes studying the spawning behavior and habitat utilization of paddlefish in the Chippewa and Mississippi Rivers for the US Fish and Wildlife Service- Onalaska Fishery Resource Office and working at Fort McCoy for the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands for nine years. There he collected and analyzed physical, chemical and biological data on coldwater streams and lakes within the installation and gained extensive stream and habitat improvement experience. At Fort McCoy he also earned graduate credits at Colorado State University.

Shawn’s research interests include studying interactions between water quality and river biota, anthropogenic effects on water quality, and effects of habitat quality on river biota. At home he enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, hunting, fishing, cross country skiing, and canoeing.
