The Citizen Action AmeriCorps Program works to strengthen communities by creating and managing service projects, mobilizing and engaging new volunteers, cultivating community leaders and building the capacity of community based organizations. Strengthening Communities AmeriCorps*VISTA Initiative
Over three years, 75 VISTAs per year will serve in Volunteer Centers to recruit volunteers and develop organizational capacity for programs to meet community needs in four focus areas: Empowering Faith-Based and Grassroots Organizations, Asset Development and Wealth Creation, Strengthening Families, and Homeland Security: Emergency and Disaster. With an alumni base of 400,000 and growing, AmeriCorps Alums represents a diverse group of active citizens, spanning over ten years of service and hundreds of different programs. AmeriCorps alumni are bound together by a common commitment to service and a desire to participate as active members in their communities.
