Steve Hochman, workforce planner, horse breeder and table tennis buff

Steve Hochman Building Asset Manager Human Capital Asset Manager Public Builing Service Washington DC GSA recongizes that to attract the right talent, you have to have family friendly initiatives. That makes GSA a great place to work.
  • - Steve Hochman puts the right people in the right places to help ensure the successful planning and completion of projects for GSA's Public Buildings Service (PBS). One of his main responsibilities is developing a workforce capacity model. The intent of the software capacity model is to help determine the resources needed to successfully complete the many projects PBS plans and manages. His previous 10 years in ship design at the Norfolk Shipyard, three at the shipyard headquarters, well prepared him for the complex modeling process.

  • - Steve attributes the camaraderie in his office to his colleagues' ability to achieve their goals. Everyone is willing to help out even if they're not directly involved with my projects, which is a great thing for encouraging innovation.

  • - Steve has two passions -- table tennis and horse breeding. He has been participating in national table tennis tournaments since 1975. He now competes in the over-40 category in about 12 events yearly, including the U.S. national championships every December and the U.S. Open every July. "At a recent tournament in Columbus, Ohio, in March, I beat a guy who's about 10 years older then me, one of the better senior players in the country."

  • - He and his wife have been involved in race horse breeding since 1987. The couple now manages an eight-acre farm and four horses in Westminster, MD. They once owned 90 acres and 20 horses for breeding and racing.
