Anthony E. Costa was appointed as Acting Commissioner of the Public Buildings Service of the U.S. General Services Administration on December 27, 2008.  He is responsible for the asset management and design, construction, leasing, operations, and disposal for a real estate portfolio of 354 million square feet in more than 8,600 public and private buildings accommodating over one million federal workers.

Prior to being appointed as Acting Commissioner, he was Deputy Commissioner serving as PBS’s Chief Operating Officer.  Before that appointment, he was the Assistant Regional Administrator for the Public Buildings Service’s National Capital Region.  In this position Mr. Costa was responsible for the daily operation of over 86 million square feet in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area. He also served as the Chief of Staff for the Public Buildings Service. Mr. Costa began his career with GSA as a Presidential Management Intern.

Mr. Costa has received several honors for outstanding performance, including the Walter Washington District Champion Award presented by Leadership Greater Washington in 2008.

Mr. Costa holds a bachelor of arts in geography and economics from Bucknell University and a master's degree in regional planning from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
