Emergency Management

In an emergency, GSA's Heartland Region works with other agencies to support the Department of Homeland Security's National Response Framework. GSA is responsible for opening and closing federal office buildings where agencies are located. In the event of an emergency, federal employees should follow their own agency's emergency procedures and monitor media announcements to obtain disaster or emergency-related information. GSA will publish emergency information to www.gsa.gov/emergency and coordinate with the Chicago Federal Executive Board when necessary with additional information for federal employees, vendors, and citizens.

The National Response Framework establishes a comprehensive all-hazards approach to domestic incident response. GSA plays a critical role in the National Response Framework, providing a full array of support for logistics, acquisitions, and specified transportation needs through the range of possible conditions.

The Regional Emergency Coordinator is the lead for GSA in support of the National Response Framework at the regional level. Contact information is provided at the right of this page.

Continuity of Operations (COOP)

Federal agencies rely on GSA to deliver expert solutions, acquisition services, and superior workplaces. With today’s changing threat environment, everyone needs awareness of the full spectrum of emergencies and disasters that can affect delivery of essential services.

GSA's Continuity of Operations (COOP) planning, testing, and training program enables employees to continue operations and customer support in any emergency.

The GSA Great Lakes Region is available to assist other federal agencies with their COOP planning and training needs. Contact information is provided at the upper right of this page.

Agencies can access additional COOP related information at the FEMA website.
