SSA's Performance and Accountability Report for Fiscal Year (FY) 1998

SSA became the first Federal agency to publish its FY 1998 Accountability Report

SSA's Accountability Report for FY 1998 provides full disclosure of SSA's financial and programmatic operations. With its publication on November 20, 1998 -- less than 2 months after the close of the fiscal year -- SSA became the first Federal agency to publish its FY 1998 Accountability Report. FY 1998 marks the twelfth year that SSA has published audited financial statements, the fifth year that SSA has received an unqualified opinion on its financial statements and the fourth year that SSA has been authorized by the Office of Management and Budget to streamline and consolidate statutorily required financial reporting into a single Accountability Report.
 

 

Highlights

Highlights of SSA's Accountability Report for FY 1998 include a Ten-Year Summary of Financial Highlights and Management's Discussion and Analysis (MD&A). The MD&A consists of five sections: SSA's Mission and Organizational Structure; Major Issues Facing SSA; Performance Goals and Results; Highlights of SSA's Financial Position; and Systems and Controls. The report contains messages from SSA's Commissioner and Inspector General (IG), SSA's audited principal financial statements and notes, supplemental financial schedules and management information categorized by SSA's business processes and service delivery interfaces. It also includes Office of Inspector General reports including the report on the Audit of SSA's FY 1998 Financial Statements.
