Averill Park Central School District encompasses a 120 square mile area within a 20-minute drive of Albany and Troy, New York. The district educates approximately 3,500 students across seven school buildings; the district's building portfolio also includes one transportation department building. The district has assessed the energy performance of all of its schools and undertaken improvements, averaging more than a 20-point improvement in energy efficiency. Program components include outreach to increase student and community awareness of energy use. A partnership with ENERGY STAR and EEI (Energy Education Inc.) has helped the district avoid more than $500,000 dollars in energy costs over the past two years. Additionally, the district's main focus is to improve energy efficiency and invest the dollar savings back into education.
