Abstract

Wellstart International, a World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborating Center on Breastfeeding, is a non-profit organization that promotes breastfeeding globally. Wellstart provides educational opportunities for perinatal health care professionals, focusing on the scientific basis and management of human lactation. Collaborating with in-country colleagues, Wellstart provides assistance in assessment, national program design and implementation, policy and cost analysis, social marketing, and evaluation. Wellstart also provides patient care services for successful breastfeeding which include prenatal consultations, progress evaluations, assessment and treatment of breastfeeding problems, and nutrition counseling. Wellstart operates a Helpline for telephone consults and inquiries.

Publications

Publications are offered in English. Publications include Policy and Technical Monographs, an Assessment Series, a Breastfeeding and Culture Series, Breast Feeding Curriculum and self-study modules, documents on breastfeeding promotion, country status reports, and numerous other publications. A publications list is available upon request.
