The American Society on Aging, formerly the Western Gerontological Society was created in 1954 to improve the lives of older persons by enhancing the commitment and skills of those who work with them . The Society provides education, training and information on services to the elderly and other age-related topics. Training programs and conferences are conducted for gerontology students, professionals working with the elderly, and other businesses and agencies which provide services for the elderly. In collaboration with CDC, ASA sponsers a heatlh promotion web site with ready to use curriculum and information for professionals working with older adults and their families. Free access allows all materials to be downloaded from the site at www.asaging.org/cdc
