The Food, Nutrition and Consumer Services administers a variety of food assistance programs mandated by Federal legislation. These include the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC); the Child Care Food Program; the National School Lunch Program; the Food Stamp Program; the Special Milk Program for Children; and the Summer Food Service Program for Children. The purpose of the food assistance programs is to improve the nutritional status of children and low-income adults.
Publications
A variety of publications on program administration and evaluation, nutrition education resource materials, and descriptions of FCS programs are available. Other topics include information on breastfeeding for health professionals, information about FCS programs for retailers, and food lists and menu planning for consumers. Some titles are available in Spanish, Korean, and Vietnamese. Publications should be ordered through the FCS regional offices. There is a charge for some items.
