Figure 8.8 is titled "Percentage with Severe or Very Severe Role Impairment as Measured by the Sheehan Disability Scale (SDS) among Persons Aged 12 or Older with a Major Depressive Episode in the Past Year: 2004." This is a bar graph, where roles are shown on the horizontal axis, and the percentage with severe or very severe role impairment is shown on the vertical axis. For each role category, there is a bar representing youths aged 12 to 17 and a bar representing adults aged 18 or older.
Among youths aged 12 to 17, 30.2 percent reported severe or very severe impairment with chores at home, 38.3 percent with school or work, 48.5 percent with close relationships, and 47.6 percent with their social life.
Among adults aged 18 or older, 46.3 percent reported severe or very severe impairment with tasks at home, 36.0 percent with work, 43.2 percent with close relationships, and 49.8 percent with their social life.
