Houston
Field Division
General Information
The Houston
Field Division has jurisdiction in Central, Southern and Eastern
Texas along with some areas in Western Texas. We also encompass
three Judicial Districts; the Western, Southern and Eastern Judicial
Districts of Texas. Houston and San Antonio, Texas are two of the
nations top ten largest cities, forth and eighth respectively, and
are both located within the Houston Field Division.
In the area
of Industry Operations, the Houston Field Division has in excess
of 4000 firearms dealers and over 300 explosives dealers in our
area of responsibility. These must be inspected on a regular basis.
Regarding alcohol compliance, one of the largest breweries, Budweiser,
is located in Houston. Since the Houston Division has the largest
area which borders the Republic of Mexico, tobacco compliance and
tobacco smuggling investigations involve a significant portion of
our resources. Another major effort of Industry Operations in the
Houston Division involves the tax compliance and product integrity
programs carried out by the Division's inspectors assigned throughout
our two area offices.
Our Law Enforcement
efforts include a focusing of resources in the area of Youth Crime
Gun Investigations, firearms trafficking investigations, Reduction
of Violent Crime Initiative - Criminals Using Firearms Face Extended
Maximums (CUFF'EM), arson and explosives investigations, HIDTA,
and OCDETF investigations. We have special agents trained as Certified
Fire Investigators, Certified Explosives Specialists, Computer Investigative
Specialists, Crisis Negotiators and Medics. Our Special Agents participate
on the National Response Team and the Special Response Team.
In all of our
major cities, Houston, Austin, Beaumont, Corpus Christi, McAllen
and San Antonio, we lead or participate in Task Forces to investigate
arson and explosives incidents, gangs, narcotics and violent crime.
Austin, Houston and San Antonio are YCGII cities or Youth Crime
Gun Interdiction Initiatives. All crime guns from these areas are
traced. The trace results can yield valuable information regarding
potential sources of firearms for youths.
