WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the swearing in of Rodger Garner as the new Mission Director for Mexico. USAID Assistant Administrator with the Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean Adolfo Franco presided at the event and administered the oath.

Garner will oversee a program dedicated to helping Mexico continue progress in democracy and governance, public-private education partnerships, economic growth, health prevention, and poverty reduction.

"We share a positive relationship with the Mexican government and its people. Rodger joins the USAID/Mexico mission at a time when we are assisting both national and local governments to expand economic opportunities for many citizens," stated Franco.

A Senior Foreign Service Officer, Garner has served with USAID since 1984 in multiple countries including Somalia, the Philippines, Thailand, the Dominican Republic and Nicaragua. Most recently he served as Mission Director in Romania, overseeing an annual budget of over $30 million and a staff of fifty-five. The USAID/Romania program includes activities in economic growth, democracy and governance, and social sectors.

Originally from Nyssa, Oregon, Garner graduated from Utah State University with a bachelor's degree in Agricultural Economics. He holds both a master's degree and a (ABD) PhD. in Agricultural Economics from Iowa State University.
