A new ENERGY STAR specification for Monitors/Displays (<30 inches diagonal) and digital picture frames will become effective October 30, 2009. Additionally, a new specification for ENERGY STAR professional displays (30–60 inches diagonal) will be effective January 1, 2010. On average, Energy Star qualified products covered under this new specification will be 20 percent more energy efficient than conventional options.
ENERGY STAR qualified computer monitors/displays use from 25–60% less electricity than standard models, depending on how they are used.
Federal IT managers and procurement staff should visit Product Purchasing and Computer Power Management for Federal Agencies to learn about saving energy by purchasing ENERGY STAR and EPEAT-registered office equipment and complying with Executive Order 13423.
Because most computer equipment is left on 24 hours a day, power management features are important for saving energy and are an easy way to reduce air pollution. However, some ENERGY STAR monitors are shipped without their power management features enabled, so make sure yours are.
