The Commerce Department’s U.S. Commercial Service, the Sacramento U.S. Export Assistance Center (USEAC) today released information that Dr. David A. Sampson, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, will be presenting the Export Achievement Certificate to two local Northern California companies: High Sierra Electronics and JEI, Inc. for their excellence in exporting.

JEI, Inc. and High Sierra Electronics will be acknowledged for their achievement on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the 10th Annual Capital City Consular Corps Luncheon; which is hosted by the Northern California World Trade Center. The 10th Annual Capital City Consular Corps Luncheon, held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Sacramento, is Northern California's premier international business luncheon.

High Sierra Electronics (HSE), located in Grass Valley, California, designs, manufactures, and installs precision environmental systems for water resource management, weather data collection and prevention of flood damage and loss of life. In January 2002, HSE sold a large order to an Italian company. The Italian company failed to pay the full amount and owed  $36,680.05.  In December 2004 Mrs. Kathy Slouber, President of HSE requested assistance from Mr. George Tastard, Director of the Sacramento Export Assistance Center, U.S. Commercial Service. On behalf of HSE, Tastard, contacted Commercial Assistant Valentina Massari of the U.S. Commercial Service in Milan, Italy and requested assistance regarding this international trade complaint. Due to counseling and advocacy of the U.S Commercial Service an installment payment plan was facilitated from the Italian company.

JEI Inc., located in Cameron Park, California, manufactures and exports digital voice recorders, analog voice recorders, and audio switching networks. On December 12, 2006, Mr. Jack Mahoney, President of JEI, Inc. contacted Mr. George Tastard, Director of the U.S. Commercial Service in Sacramento, and requested assistance regarding a previously won contract for a digital voice recorder project with the Romanian government. Mr. Mahoney expressed his concerns about other European competitors’ unfair pressure to de-list their winning bid. On behalf of JEI, Inc., Tastard, requested assistance from the U.S. Commercial Service in Bucharest, Romania with this international trade complaint. Due to counseling and advocacy of the U.S Commercial Service, JEI, Inc was re-awarded the bid which is valued at approximately $129,000 USD.

With its network of offices across the U.S. and in more than 80 countries, the U.S. Commercial Service utilizes its global presence and international marketing expertise to help U.S. companies sell their product and services worldwide. In 2005 the U.S. Commercial Service helped generate nearly 21,500 export successes worth billions in U.S. export sales.
