1998 Annual Report on Drug Use Among Adult and Juvenile Arrestees

April 1999
The 1998 Annual Report on Drug Use Among Adult and Juvenile Arrestees provides an overview of the Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring Program (ADAM), its methodology and data collection process, and detailed site-by-site tables summarizing results from each of the 35 participating cities. Results are presented in a number of different contexts, including age, gender, region, and use of specific drugs. Thirteen new locations contributed to ADAM data in 1998. Many of these sites are in the West, where methamphetamine use showed itself to be concentrated. Marijuana use remained high among juvenile offenders, with 64 percent of arrested males in one site testing positive.

Individual Drug Type Usage Among Arrestees
The following are individual volumes summarizing trends in the use of cocaine, marijuana, methamphetamine, and opiates among recent arrestees in the Arrestee Drug Abuse Monitoring (ADAM) Program. Each booklet tracks use of a substance over time (1990-98) by gender and age group.
