IAMU has partnered with the Iowa League of Cities to conduct a survey of our collective members that will focus on water and sewer rates and service.  Both organizations receive numerous calls every year from utilities wanting to know the rates of similar sized communities.  While there are other factors to consider when talking about rates, we feel the results of this survey will provide useful information to our members.  For information on this survey, please contact Shannon Paseka at shannonpaseka@iowaleague.org or 515-244-7282.

Texas Natural Gas Storage Case

Governor Culver has announced the “Jumpstart  Iowa” Disaster Recovery Initiative, which will provide financial assistance to small business owners and homeowners who suffered damage due to the severe weather in the spring and summer of this year. It includes up to $10,000 to homeowners and up to $5,000 to small business owners for the purchase of qualifying energy efficient equipment. Money for energy efficient equipment is being provided by the Iowa Power Fund. Funds will be distributed by the Councils of Government (COGs) beginning October 1, 2008. While this will not directly impact municipal utilities, they will still have some responsibilities.
