Eco-Friendly Products & Services Greening Your Mail Recycle Innovation Direct and Green

With the right resources, it’s easy to be green. Start with us—right here, right now: greener choices with the U.S. Postal Service®

Order eco-friendly packaging for shipments
We offer you a greener shade of green.

The Postal Service is the first mailing or shipping company to achieve Cradle to CradleSM certification for our packaging. It’s recyclable, of course. But it's so much more than that. This is environmental "big picture" certification. It starts at the design stage, considers energy and water use through manufacturing, and ends with a product that can be safely recycled. Cradle to CradleSM certification comes from McDonough Braungart Design Chemistry (MBDC).

What does this mean for the Postal Service? A half billion Priority Mail and Express Mail packages and envelopes now meet higher environmental standards as more than 15,000 metric tons of carbon equivalent emissions are prevented each year.

What does it mean for customers? You can send "greener" packages across the country or around the world — it won’t cost you any more.

USPS begins new recycling programs

The mail is an easy and efficient way to recycle items that if disposed of improperly could cause environmental harm.

We're piloting a mail it back program where consumers can mail their used electronic items such as PDAs, cell phones and ink cartridges.

We are working with OSRAM SYLVANIA and Veolia Environmental Services to help consumers properly recycle used compact fluorescent lamps.

Hewlett Packard, Dell, and Sprint are giving their customers the ability to return empty ink cartridges, cell phones and other wireless devices, old computers and computer equipment through the mail.
