15TH ANNUAL SCIENCE AND MATH COMPETITION COMING TO SACRAMENTO

 FOLSOM, Calif. — High school students from Northern California will match wits in the Sacramento Regional Science Bowl competition Saturday at Granite Bay High School, 1 Grizzly Way, Granite Bay.

Twenty-one teams from 14 schools will vie for top honors in the 15 th annual double elimination competition as they answer questions in astronomy, biology, chemistry, earth science, general/applied science, energy, mathematics and physics. The winning team earns an all-expense paid trip to the Department of Energy’s National Science Bowl, April 28 through May 2, 2005, in Washington, D.C. A team from Mira Loma High School, Sacramento, was the regional winner last year and a team from Rio Americano High School, Sacramento, was the runner-up.

Major sponsors of this year’s event include the Western Area Power Administration, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, the City of Shasta Lake, Northern California Power Agency and Navigant Consulting, Inc.

Competition begins at 8 a.m.

 

MEDIA ADVISORY:

The morning competition is a round-robin format. The teams with the most points will advance to the afternoon double elimination tournament with the championship round set for about 4 p.m. The awards ceremony will follow immediately. Interviews with competing teams and their coaches will be available throughout the day.
