USCIS To Close Its Hong Kong Field Office On August 29, 2008

Will Stop Accepting Applications Beginning June 23


WASHINGTON – U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) today announced it will permanently close its field office in Hong Kong on August 29, 2008.  To prepare, the Hong Kong Field Office will stop accepting the following applications and transfer responsibility after the dates listed below:

The U.S. State Department Consular Section will assume responsibility for the processing of this application.

Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Resident Status (Form I-407)

June 23, 2008

The U.S. State Department Consular Section will assume responsibility for the processing of this application.

Petition to Classify Orphan as an Immediate Relative (Form I-600)

Sept 2, 2008

The U.S. State Department Consular Section will assume responsibility for the processing of this application.

Application for Advance Processing of Orphan Petition

(Form I-600A)

Sept 2, 2008

The U.S. State Department Consular Section will receive and forward the application the USCIS Bangkok District Office to process.

Re-Entry Permits sent to Hong Kong for collection

Sept 2, 2008

The U.S. State Department Consular Section will distribute the permits.

Application for Boarding Letter aka: Transportation Letter

Sept 2, 2008

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) will assume responsibility for the processing of this document.

CBP Hong Kong is open to the public Monday thru Friday 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Office is located at 33 Garden Road, Central, Hong Kong in the St. Johns Building, 11th Floor, across the street from the U.S. Consulate General.  Phone: (852) 2524-1136.

 

The U.S. Consulate in Hong Kong is open to the public on Monday thru Friday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (except on U.S. and local holidays). The public is seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Waiting times vary and are sometimes longer than anticipated.
