Changing Cookie Settings
This template will provide a short description on disabling cookies for the most used browsers. For old or special browser types, please reference the help files associated with that particular software.

Internet Explorer 6.0
Open IE 6.0 Explorer and click on…

Tools > Internet Options > Privacy Tab

Move the slider bar to the level of cookie acceptance desired.
Slide bar to top to select Block all Cookies.
To override cookie handling for specific web sites, click the Edit button.
User can specify URLs of Web sites to “accept” or “allow” cookies from regardless of slider settings.


Internet Explorer 5.X
Open IE 5.x Explorer and click on…

Tools > Internet Options > Security Tab > Custom Level

Scroll down to Cookies settings
Select from the following options:

disable
enable
prompt

Scroll down to Per-Session Cookies
Select from the following options:

disable
enable
prompt

Note: From these options cookies can either be turned “off/on” or “on” but with alerts for each cookie being set.

Nescape 8.x
Select Tools>Options and then select the Site Controls panel.
In the Master Settings list, select the trust level that you want to modify.
To block cookies, pop-ups, images, and other behaviors at the trust level you have selected, make sure that those options are de-selected (as shown above).
To block cookies and images from other sites while still accepting cookies and images that originate from the site you are visiting, allow these options, but also select from the originating Web site only.
Repeat steps 2 and 3 for each trust level.

Accepting "Session-Only" Cookies
- Select Tools>Options and then select the Privacy panel.
- In the Privacy panel, click on the Cookies category to display options for that category:
- In the Keep Cookies field, select until I close Netscape. This option accepts cookies but deletes them once you exit your browser

Netscape 4.x
Open Netscape 4.x browser and click on…

Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Cookies

Select from the following options:

Accept All
Accept only cookies that get sent to the originating server
Disable
May also check “Warn before accepting Cookies”

Note: From these options cookies can either be turned “off/on” or “on” but with alerts for each cookie being set.

Mozilla Firefox 1.x
Open Mozilla Firefox 1.x browser and click on…
Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies

Cookies Settings: (choose from the following)
CLEAR (all cookies)
Allow site to set cookies
for the originating web site only

Keep Cookies

until they expire
until I close Firefox
ask me every time

Exceptions - Note: Exceptions allows user to specify (if desired) which servers/domains to accept or reject cookies from.

View Cookies

Remove cookie
Remove all cookies
don’t allow sites that set removed cookies to set future cookies


Opera 5.x & 6.x
Open Opera 5.x or 6.x browser and click on…

File > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies

Cookies Settings: (choose from the following)

Do not accept cookies
Display received cookies
Accept only cookies from selected servers
Automatically accept all cookies

Additional Settings: (choose from the following)

Only accept cookies for the server
Do not accept 3rd party cookies
Display 3rd party cookies
Accept from all servers

Note: Advance functionality allows user to specify (if desired) which servers/domains to accept or reject cookies from .

File > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies > Edit Server Filters

User may also enable the following options:

Throw away new cookies on exit
Display warnings for illegal domains
Display warning for illegal path


Final Step
After disabling cookies users will need to delete all old cookies from their local machine. For IE browser, those files are located in the “Temporary Internet Files” directory on the user’s local machine. Please consult your software instruction manual for other browser types.
