WHEREAS, the individuals and corporations associated with NASCAR, from drivers and crew members to sponsors and fans, share a common belief in reaching out to those less fortunate and providing assistance to those who are in need; and
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Excellence 400 presented by Bank of America marks the first time a sponsor has dedicated an entire NEXTEL Cup event to promoting volunteerism and philanthropy as a way of making positive change in communities; and
WHEREAS, the Neighborhood Excellence theme reflects a national commitment to working with local leaders to identify and meet the most pressing needs of communities and the race weekend provides a platform to educate and energize NASCAR fans about the opportunities to volunteer in their own communities; and
WHEREAS, The NASCAR Community has a strong tradition of supporting a wide range of charitable initiatives that demonstrate the many passions and interests that drivers, teams, and industry members have away from the racetrack; and
WHEREAS, The NASCAR Foundation is one of the newest Leadership Organizations to join with the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to honor its volunteers with the President’s Volunteer Service Award;
BE IT RESOLVED, this 4th day of June, 2006, that the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation expresses its profound appreciation for all that the NASCAR Community has accomplished, and salutes its extraordinary efforts to honor and inspire volunteer service and for answering President George W. Bush’s call to service.
