Science Bowl tests student knowledge

LOVELAND, Colo.-

January 21, 2000 - Twenty-four teams representing 13 high schools will compete in the Department of Energy=s Rocky Mountain Regional Science Bowl competition scheduled Saturday, Jan. 29, at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.

Schools participating in the competition are: Boulder and Fairview high schools, Boulder; Brush High School; Fort Collins, Poudre, and Rocky Mountain high schools, Fort Collins; Fruita High School; Holyoke High School; Loveland High School; Montrose High School; Rangely High School; Woodlin High School, Woodrow, Colo.; and Scottsbluff Senior High School, Scottsbluff, Neb.

Registration begins at 7 a. m. with competition starting at 8 a. m. in the Clark Building on the CSU campus. Students will face questions about astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, earth science, mathematics and physics. The winning team will represent the Rocky Mountain Region at the National Science Bowl competition in May in Chevy Chase, Maryland.

This year=s competition is funded and supported by Western Area Power Administration=s Rocky Mountain Region, Department of Agriculture=s Agricultural Research Service Offices in Fort Collins and Laramie, DOE's Rocky Flats Field Office, the National Park Service in Fort Collins and the Eyeopener Kiwanis Club of Fort Collins. Volunteers from these agencies, run this competition as a community service project.

Western Area Power Administration annually markets and transmits more than 10,000 megawatts of power from hydroelectric powerplants owned and operated by the Bureau of Reclamation and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in 15 central and western states.
