Open Letter to All Federal Firearms Licensees

On February 9, 2001, ATF published a ruling that establishes a final deadline and ends the registration period for individuals who are currently in possession of the Streetsweeper, Striker-12, and the USAS-12 shotguns. The registration period for these shotguns will expire on May 1, 2001. ATF reclassified the Streetsweeper, the Striker-12, and the USAS-12 shotguns as destructive devices for purposes of the National Firearms Act (NFA). See ATF Rulings 94-1 & 94-2, effective March 1, 1994.

ATF believes that sufficient time has been afforded for the registration period of these destructive devices. Therefore, the Bureau has decided that May 1, 2001 will end this registration period. After that date, any unregistered Streetsweeper, Striker-12, or USAS-12, will be subject to the seizure and forfeiture provisions of the law. In addition, criminal penalties may also be imposed for possession of an unregistered destructive device.
