Director Gonzalez Welcomes 146 New U.S. Citizens Aboard the U.S.S. George Washington

Director Emilio Gonzalez, on June 14, 2006, administered the Oath of Allegiance and gave congratulatory remarks to 146 service members and new Americans from 45 countries aboard the U.S.S. George Washington. Alfonso Aguilar, Chief of the Office of Citizenship, opened the ceremony and called attendees to order. Phyllis Howard, Washington, D.C. District Director, led the presentation of candidates and the call of countries. Many of the new American sailors recently returned from military service in the Middle East. The citizenship ceremony was hosted by the U.S. Navy in Norfolk, Virginia.
