Making Physical Activity a Part of Carlos' Life

CarlosCarlos, 85, has trouble walking and has fallen in the past. Although he can't do 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week because of his health conditions, he is as active as he can be. He gets about 70 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic activity each week and follows a personalized strength-training program.

Carlos' Physical Activity Routine

To reduce his risk of falling again, a physical therapist has designed a strength and balance training program just for Carlos. It includes 30 minutes of strength and balance training exercises 3 times a week.

The assisted-living facility where Carlos lives has a garden with walking paths and benches. He has slowly increased his aerobic activity, and is walking these paths about 10 minutes a day. Some days he can walk more than others. He tries to walk a little bit each day because he knows doing some activity is better than none at all.
