Does the risk of losing control of your bladder keep you from enjoying activities with your family and friends? If you’re a woman with this problem, you’re not alone.
Hi, I’m Dr. Griffin Rodgers, bringing you Healthy Moments from the NIH. I’m the Director of the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
More than 13 million women in the US lose bladder control, which is also called urinary incontinence. If you’re one of them, you can take steps to reduce your problem.
A health care provider can teach you how to retrain your bladder to increase the time between bathroom visits. And, you can learn kegel exercises to help you regain control of your bladder and your life. He or she may also recommend drinking less coffee, tea, and alcohol.
If you’re overweight, losing weight can reduce incontinence.
