Energy Services website to feature new look If youÕve visited WesternÕs energy services website lately, youÕve probably noticed that itÕs time for an upgrade. With Internet technology changing even more quickly than the electric utility industry, websites that donÕt capture new opportunities are doomed to be obsolete. Based on user input and a survey of user-friendly and informative Web applications, Western will unveil a revamped energy services website June 5. The new ES website has a two-part goal: provide one-touch information on WesternÕs ES programs, including the equipment loan program, technical assistance, publications, renewable resources program, and regional representatives; and serve as an information hub for other energy services information, from breaking industry news to extensive links. The website will pull together the energy services information most useful to WesternÕs customers and other stakeholders. Besides a completely new look, the revised ES website will feature a main article that changes daily or more often. The article may be from the current Energy Services Bulletin, a press release, a technology highlight, or another feature. It will be supported by links to the latest and most valuable industry news, whether on WesternÕs ES website or off site. WesternÕs revised ES website will also highlight features for Western-related events, such as the IRP revision process or a series of workshops. These highlights, offering key links, will remain on the main page only so long as they are pertinent. The website will include a comprehensive search tool, Ask a Technical Question online, and direct subscriptions for WesternÕs NewsBriefs, Green Power and Market Research News, and Energy Services Bulletin. Sections within the revised ES website will be Integrated Resource Planning, Renewable Resources Program, Technical Assistance, Equipment Loan Program, Publications, and Additional Resources. With the exception of Additional Resources, these sections highlight WesternÕs energy services programs, allowing website users to receive or request information and services online. The Additional Resources section will provide grouped links to only the most valuable information on utility restructuring, energy efficiency, renewable energy, marketing, Department of Energy programs, state energy programs, and customer programs. The Utility Options for a Competitive Edge online database for community-owned utilitiesÑwhich features summaries of energy services activities undertaken by customers to prepare for a deregulated environmentÑwill be revamped, as well. ItÕs at www.utilityoptions.org, and has over 200 case studies searchable by project type, utility location, utility type and size, and more.
