How can I learn about treatment services in my area?
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has developed a Web site and telephone hotline to aid in finding treatment facilities in different areas of the country. Please visit the Treatment Facility Locator Web site or call 800–662–HELP (4357) to obtain this information.

What is methadone?
Methadone is a synthetic opioid that blocks the effects of heroin and other prescription drugs containing opiates. You can view further information about methadone on the Methadone section of the Center for Substance Abuse Treatment (CSAT) Division of Pharmacologic Therapies Web site. How many people are referred to drug treatment by the criminal justice system?
Information and data concerning individuals who are referred to drug/alcohol treatment by the justice system can be found in the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) annual publication, Treatment Episode Data Set (TEDS). Please also view SAMHSA's publication, Substance Abuse Treatment Admissions Referred by the Criminal Justice System: 2002 for additional information.

I am a parent concerned about my child's drug use. Do you have resources that can assist me?
Resources designed to assist parents who are concerned about a child's drug use include: the Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP) resource, Suspect Your Teen Is Using Drugs or Drinking? A Brief Guide to Action For Parents; the Partnership for a Drug-Free America (PDFA) resource, Helping Others with a Drug Problem; and the A Family Guide to Keeping Youth Mentally Healthy and Drug-Free Web site.

Additionally, Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) operates a telephone hotline and Web site to assist in locating drug treatment programs throughout the United States if this is something you feel you need.
