The Ak-Chin Indian Community in Arizona, the city of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Kirtland Air Force Base in New Mexico are a few of the vital customers of Colorado River Storage Project's Management Center. Our customers rely on the Management Center's hydroelectric resources to competitively serve communities in the West. Whether the need is for lighting homes or providing power to local businesses, our goal is to provide customers with reliable hydropower.

The CRSP Management Center is part of Western Area Power Administration, a Federal power marketing administration. Western sells wholesale power and bulk wholesale transmission to local utilities. Your electric company gets the power it delivers to consumers from a variety of sources, including wholesale power providers such as Western, purchases and exchanges from neighboring utilities and its own generation.

Delivering power
Management Center staff serve cities and towns, rural electric cooperatives, public utility and irrigation districts and Federal agencies in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Wyoming and Texas. These customers have a priority, or preference, to receive Federal power. We sell and deliver power generated from hydroelectric powerplants of the Colorado River Storage Project and the Collbran, Dolores, Rio Grande and Seedskadee projects. This power is bundled and sold as the Salt Lake City Area Integrated Projects to cities and towns, rural electric cooperatives, agricultural irrigation districts and Federal and state agencies. We also sell power from the Provo River Project and the Falcon-Amistad Project. These electrical resources total about 1,922 megawatts of installed generating capacity.

CRSP Management Center employees develop and direct marketing programs; develop, negotiate and administer contracts and set power rates; analyze hydroelectric power availability; participate in environmental protection measures; manage finances; and interact with customers in Utah, New Mexico and parts of Wyoming, Nevada, and Arizona. We also provide services to customers of the Amistad-Falcon Project in Texas. We work as managers, engineers, contract specialists, rate analysts, environmental specialists, accountants, energy marketers and administrative assistants.

Providing services
We are committed to serving customers on many different levels. For example, we assist customers in saving their valuable electrical resources by actively promoting energy management and conservation programs and helping them determine their future energy needs. When customers want new products and services tailored to their individual needs, we explore their ideas.

We are also committed to protecting the delicate balance of the Colorado River. Agencies that manage this river's resources must weigh its many roles: irrigation, recreation, hydropower and native and non-native endangered species habitat protection. Balancing these resources with the needs of water and electrical energy customers is a chief concern.

For example, we have been actively involved in ongoing environmental studies about the Glen Canyon Dam since the 1980s. These studies, along with similar studies of Flaming Gorge Dam and the Aspinall Unit, represent Western's commitment to protect endangered animal and plant species in and along the Colorado River. At the Management Center, we encourage an open and comfortable dialogue among all groups interested in protecting the environment.
