The Goddard Earth Sciences and Technology (GEST) Center at the University of Maryland is currently seeking candidates to fill a research associate/research assistant position. This position will provide an opportunity to study cloud detection and avoidance using high-resolution satellite data, combined with satellite cloud climatologies and cloud forecasts from weather prediction numerical models. The appointment level will be determined based upon education and experience. Located in Baltimore County, GEST is comprised of a collaborative effort between government, university, and private industry and is dedicated to the study and advancement of physical, chemical, and biological science.

Preferred candidates should have experience analyzing satellite-based remote sensing data and have a Ph.D. in geography, environmental studies, atmospheric science, or related fields. Working knowledge of FORTRAN, C, IDL, ENVI, or other image processing software is desired. Selected candidates must qualify for a Goddard security clearance and have an eligible visa status.
