Get Enough Folic Acid

The Benefits

Take Control – Act Early
Folic acid can prevent birth defects of a baby’s brain or spine if a woman gets enough of it before and during pregnancy. Folic acid is needed during the first few weeks, often before a woman knows that she is pregnant. That is why it’s important to get enough folic acid every day, even when you are not planning to get pregnant.

Start Today: Small Steps
  • If you don’t take a multivitamin, write yourself a note to pick some up at the pharmacy.
  • Tell a friend how important it is to take folic acid, especially if she might become pregnant some day.
  • Send an e-card to encourage a friend or family member to eat healthy foods.
