How can I learn about treatment services in my area?
The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services
Administration (SAMHSA) has developed a Web site and telephone hotline

What is methadone?
Methadone is a synthetic opioid that blocks the effects of heroin and other
prescription drugs containing opiates. You can view further information about

How many people are referred to drug treatment by the criminal justice
system?
Information and data concerning individuals who are referred to drug/alcohol
treatment by the justice system can be found in the Substance
Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) annual publication, Treatment
