Message from David Eisner on Modification to the 2005 Challenge Grants Competition

Dear Colleagues,

In light of the devastation and suffering caused by Hurricane Katrina and anticipation of further devastation from Hurricane Rita, the Corporation for National and Community Service has decided to add to the focus of its Challenge Grant program for fiscal year 2005. I am writing to advise you, therefore, that the Notice of Funds Availability that had been published on Grants.gov and the Corporation’s web site on July 22, 2005 has been withdrawn and that the initial competition has been cancelled.

We anticipate that an expanded Challenge Grant funding opportunity will be posted by October 3, 2005.This will continue to seek proposals to recruit baby boomers as volunteers to meet human needs, however it will emphasize those human needs that have been created by the storms. As soon as the details of the competition have been made final, we will send out another e-mail.

Applications submitted for the competition that we are withdrawing will not be considered for funding; we regret any inconvenience caused by this change in focus. Programs that submitted an application to the initial Challenge Grant competition for fiscal year 2005 will be contacted directly about the cancellation. Of course, where possible, we encourage applicants and prospective applicants to consider revising their applications to meet the new grant guidelines.

Information about the new funding opportunity, including a modified notice of funding opportunities and application instructions, may be viewed in the near future at http://www.nationalservice.gov/for_organizations/funding/nofa.asp or on http://www.grants.gov/.
