President’s National Service Chief David Eisner to Speak at National Press Club on December 14

(Washington D.C.) —David Eisner, chief executive officer of the Corporation for National and Community Service, will speak at a National Press Club newsmaker luncheon on Tuesday, December 14 in Washington D.C.

Eisner will speak on “National Service at 10 Years: Lessons Learned and Future Directions.” In 1994, the Corporation for National and Community Service awarded its first grants. Since then, its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps and Learn and Serve America volunteers have provided 1.5 billion hours of service, meeting critical local needs in education, public safety, health, and disaster relief in thousands of communities across the U.S. Launched by President Clinton, strengthened by President Bush, national service begins its second decade with significant accomplishments, record funding, new reforms, and strong bipartisan support. In this address, Eisner will discuss the President’s call to service, share lessons learned and future directions for national service, and unveil a major longitudinal study on AmeriCorps.

Eisner is a nationally recognized expert on nonprofit capacity-building and organizational effectiveness. He was appointed to his current post by President George W. Bush and has served as CEO since December 2003. From 1997 until 2003, Eisner was a Vice President at AOL Time Warner, where he directed the company’s charitable foundation. In addition to his professional activities, Eisner has served on the boards of several national nonprofit organizations, including Independent Sector, the National 4-H Council, and Network for Good.

Credentialed reporters may cover the luncheon without buying a luncheon ticket, but must sit in the galleries above the Ballroom. Credentialed camera crews covering the speaker may take their place at the rear of the Ballroom on a first come, first serve basis. Technical questions about the club's abilities should be directed to Howard Rothman, A/V Director at 202.662.7535.
