Factsheet: CNCS Hurricane Activity Update #18

 

Colorado

  • 20 RSVP volunteers from the Seniors Resource Development Agency RSVP program who work at the Commodity Program in Pueblo packed boxes of commodity food that was sent to the families relocated from the hurricane.
     
  • 6 RSVP volunteers from the Lincoln County Commissioners RSVP program in Karval joined a community effort to provide shelter, food and clothing, resources, and information to a family affected by the hurricane.In addition, children’s quilts and toys were given to the Hugo church to be given to several affected families.

Maine

  • 3 PREPAREME Corps VISTA members are working with American Red Cross chapters to provide services to families who relocated to Maine because of Hurricane Katrina. All are playing leadership roles on the local relief operation.
     
  • The Peoples’ Regional Opportunity Program (PROP), which sponsors the Foster Grandparent Program in Portland, has offered home-based support services to the 65 families that have relocated to Maine following Hurricane Katrina. Staff members also distributed information about PROP’s services at a resource fair for the families.

Maryland

  • Harford County RSVP volunteers at the McFaul Activity Center collected 10 large boxes of goods that were transported along with other donated goods to Louisiana.
