Experimental Toxicology Division

The Division conducts multidisciplinary research to improve the scientific basis of risk assessment for pulmonary, cardiovascular, hepatic, renal, and immunotoxicity, and to facilitate the use of pharmacokinetic data in the risk assessment process. Both mechanistic and dosimetric information are evaluated at multiple levels of biological organization - from molecular and biochemical to cellular, to tissue and organ, and to whole animal models. ETD's research is conducted in an iterative fashion involving both experimental studies and computer modeling, both for hypothesis generation and testing, experimental design, and validation of predictions.

Particular emphasis is placed on the development and application of improved methods which enable significant advancement in the knowledge of the health effects of air and water pollutants. Intense investigations center on the cardio-pulmonary system, the immune system, and pharmacokinetics.
